Shoaib Akhtar Pleads with London Authorities
Shoaib Akhtar, the derailed Rawalpindi Express is desperate to play any cricket and to make his mark, and when Surrey from England invited him, it was a Godsend opportunity, but the stars of Shoaib are not that much in favor of him, and he met with another hiccup, though a temporary one.
The 33-year-old fast bowler was hired by Surrey until the end of the season. He was hoping that the stint will enable him to stage a comeback for the national team, having not played for Pakistan this year due to injury and a ban on discipline violation. Surrey look set for relegation from Division One as they are bottom of the County Championship table 18 points adrift of Yorkshire with three matches to go. They recruited Akhtar for their last three matches.
Shoaib Akhtar delayed his going to Surrey, because of his mother’s illness and when he after all managed to reach England in a hurry, he was told that his papers were not appropriate for the working permit, as he was to play in England and his visa was just a visit visa. Shoaib almost wept at the airport, but he was told that rules and laws were not to be violated for anyone, and he must go back and return with the proper documentation, and now that is what Shoaib is doing.
