Shoaib Malik XI win Zaidi benefit match
Shoaib Malik XI defeated Inzamam-ul-Haq XI by 43 runs in a 20-overs-a-side match played as ‘Azhar Zaidi Testimonial Cricket Match’ played at the Jinnah Stadium, Sialkot on Monday.
Pakistan national team’s captain Inzamam-ul-Haq XI won the toss and invited the Shoaib Malik XI to bat first.
Shoaib Malik XI made 179-5 off 20 overs. Shoaib Malik, Pakistan all-rounder and captain of Shoaib Malik XI, remained the top scorer from his side, stroking an unbeaten 82 off 55 balls with 5 fours and four sixes. Hafiz Khalid made 37 and Mansoor Amjad scored 32.
In reply, Inzamam-ul-Haq XI could manage 136-9 in the allotted overs. Pakistan team vice-captain Younis Khan remained the top scorer from Inzamam-ul-Haq XI, making 66 while Shahid Afridi made only 2 runs, Imran Nazir 10, Abdul Razzaq 27, Salman Butt 14, Imran Farhat 4, Kamran Akmal 9, Mohammad Sami 9, Afzal 3 and Mohammad Khalil 1. Inzamam himself did not bat.
Former chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Lt.Gen. (retd) Tauqeer Zia, Khalid Mehmood, Azhar Zaidi, State Minister for Defence Zahid Hamid, State Minister for IT and Telecommunication Ali Asjad Malhi, Sialkot District Nazim Mohammad Akmal Cheema, former Governor of Punjab Shahid Hamid, Karachi-based commentator Muneer Hussain also watched the match.
Shoaib Malik XI’s Mansoor Amjad was declared the man of the match, as he made 32 runs with 5 wickets. Meanwhile, local journalists protested against the poor arrangements made for the journalists by the Sialkot District Cricket Association, as the policemen and district government officials occupied the press gallery for the whole duration of the benefit match.
