Smack Down
Loosing two matches in a row can be frustrating, especially if it happens against one’s arch rival. Pakistani team either became over confident after winning the test series and first one day international, or there is something fishy going in the green camp. Inzamam seems out of his elements, biting nails and pulling beard in anticipation. Yousuf who scored 220 runs in the one day series against England seems to be sudued and lazy as enjoying a picnic in the fields. Inzamam XI has not learnt any lesson from the defeat in Rawalpindi and repeated the show of confused batting, fielding and captaincy in Lahore.
Things started to rot from the moment Afridi was sent to open the innings. With wickets falling at regular intervals, it was Shoaib Malik and then Abdur Razzak who provided some method to the madness. As Imran Khan rightly summed it up, there was no strategy in the game. Too much experimentation by Woolmer took its toll. What one can expect from Younis when he is sent to play at number 7?
Our bowling and fielding was as ordinary as the batting. Muhammad Asif did some damage to the indian front line and Umar Gul tried to chip in too but Rana Naveed white washed all good efforts with his 72 runs in 8 overs. Inzamam was mentally retarded at the time and kept giving the ball to Rana, inspite of his short balls which went to and over the boundaries.
Indian batting was sensible after couple of quick dismissals. Tendulkar and Dravid paved the way through which Yuvraj and Dhoni steered india to victory.
Inzimam should pull his thinking hats, or whatever he use for the purpose. There should be no more experiments and shuffles in the batting order. Let the batsmen to bat at top and pinch hitters to come later. Let the bowlers to bowl on the line and the fielders to stick their hands to the balls. Let’s use some common sense, for God’s sake.
