International Cricket Council has announced that they are going to jazz up the test format of the cricket, and for that they would not tinker with the actual format of the game, rather they would try to entice more and more audience in the ground, and along with that they would try to increase the scoring rate.

The observation by the cricket chiefs that the high scoring rates are the basic reason for the popularity of One Day International matches, and the sizzling popularity of Twenty20 format is correct, but the real beauty of these formats, which gurus overlook is that these formats are result oriented, unlike the Test cricket.

For now, the ICC has laid a stipulation that all Test nations must play a minimum of 30 one-day internationals and 12 Tests each year as part of the existing Future Tours Programme (FTP) that runs till 2012. ICC intends to increase the number of test matches in the FTP, which is very idiotic step, as it would woo away the fans from the grounds.

Five day long Test matches are bland, tasteless and stupid thing to play and to watch. ICC should take a bold step and instead of keeping this dead Test format on ventilator they should abolish it. No asteroid could enable Test matches to become potent again.
