Sporting Spirit of Sri Lanka
India is still trying to dissuade Sri Lanka to not to tour Pakistan earlier next year. India wants to make Pakistan a pariah state and it refused to come to Pakistan for series and then Sri Lanka graciously accepted the offer of Pakistan Cricket Board.
It also came after much hardwork. With sports minister Gamini Lokuge briefing President Mahinda Rajapaksa “saying that the Pakistan tour had become a diplomatic issue”. Rajapaksa then referred the matter to foreign minister Rohitha Bogollagama.
The then interim committee of the Sri Lanka Cricket headed by Arjuna Ranatunga, which was later dismissed by the government, accepted the invitation to fill in for India. But now after the government cleared the tour, Indian authorities have expressed their irk and ire over the next month’s series.
Pakistan should fully backup Sri Lanka in the face of such pressure and take this matter to the International Cricket Council. ICC should scold India over this conduct and slap a fine upon them for hurting the game.
