Sri Lanka beat England in first ODI
Sri Lanka beat England by 20 runs in the first One-day International at Lord’s here on Saturday after pacemen Dilhara Fernando and Lasith Malinga each claimed three wickets. England, requiring 258 to win after Upul Tharanga’s 120 took Sri Lanka to 257-9, rarely threatened once they slumped to 66-4 and ended on 237-9. Fernando (three for 51) and Malinga (three for 26) affected the main damage in England’s innings but it was Tharanga’s third One-day International century that allowed his team to set a competitive total. The next game in the five-match series is on Tuesday. The teams drew the three-Test series 1-1 earlier this summer.
