Tendulkar set to equal the record of Jayasuriya
Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar is all set to catch up with Sri Lankan veteran Sanath Jayasuriya as the most capped One-day International (ODI) player when he turns out for India in the series opener against the West Indies here on Sunday (tomorrow).
Tendulkar, 33, has played in 374 One-day Internationals (ODIs) so far in which he has amassed 14,537 runs, as compared to former Lanka skipper’s tally of 11,442 from 375 matches.
Tendulkar, named vice-captain for the ODI series, has also scored more ODI hundreds and fifties than Marauder from Matara, 40 and 74 against Jayasuriya’s 23 and 61.
The Indian maestro is way ahead of two other great contemporary batsmen in ODI appearance stake, Ricky Ponting and Brian Lara. Australian captain Ponting has turned out in 263 ties while his West Indies counterpart has 287 caps to his credit.
