It often seems amazing how ignorant playes are about the rules of the game. Senior players like Inzamam-ul-Haq behave like amature younglings when it come the knowledge of the laws of cricket. The laws regarding fielding, 37 (1) and (2), are clear on this issue. He suffered the agony of being dismissed on 99, when he hit the ball with his bat to avoid being run out while attempting a second run to complete his hundred off the final ball of the match. Mohinder Amarnath was the second, when he kicked the ball away from the bowler to prevent being run out, against Sri Lanka at Ahmedabad in 1989-90.
