The law stumps Inzamam
It often seems amazing how ignorant playes are about the rules of the game. Senior players like Inzamam-ul-Haq behave like amature younglings when it come the knowledge of the laws of cricket. Take, for example, the recent incident in Peshawar one dayer where Inzi was giving out obstructing-the-field. He has got this habit of picking and giving the ball to the bowler after a delivery is balled. That may also falls into the same criteria.
The laws regarding fielding, 37 (1) and (2), are clear on this issue. Law 37 (1) states that a batsman is obstructing the field if he willfully obstructs or distracts the opposing side by word or action. It is also regarded as obstruction if a batsman willfully, and without the consent of the fielding side, strikes the ball with his bat or person - other than the hand not holding the bat - after the ball has touched a fielder. And Law 37 (2), on accidental obstruction, states it is for either umpire to decide whether any obstruction or distraction is willful or not. Furthermore, the umpires can consult each other in case of any doubt.
For records, Inzimam is 3rd player in the history of cricket, nzamam-ul-Haq is the third batsman to be dismissed obstructing the field in ODIs. Rameez Raja was the first, against England at Karachi in 1987-88. He suffered the agony of being dismissed on 99, when he hit the ball with his bat to avoid being run out while attempting a second run to complete his hundred off the final ball of the match. Mohinder Amarnath was the second, when he kicked the ball away from the bowler to prevent being run out, against Sri Lanka at Ahmedabad in 1989-90.
