Three more rookies to debut in final one-dayer tomorrow
Three more youngsters are likely to make their One-day International (ODI) debut in Pakistan’s final one-dayer against Zimbabwe in Sheikhupura tomorrow (Saturday).
Talented opening batsman Khurram Manzoor is all set to join fellow openers Nasir Jamshed and Khalid Latif in a list of debutants while medium pacer Wahab Riaz and leg-spinning all-rounder Rizwan Ahmed are also likely to play their maiden ODIs.
Khurram has been knocking at the doors of international cricket with impressive performances at the domestic level. The trio was named in a new 15-man list announced for the final one-dayer by the national selection committee on Thursday.
Pakistan have already given ODI debuts to five of their youngsters and in the process have taken a 4-0 lead in the series by recording comprehensive wins in Karachi, Hyderabad, Multan and Faisalabad and can now afford the luxury to try out more newcomers.
The hosts have decided to rest premier batsman Mohammad Yousuf, who scored a century in the previous game in Faisalabad, and Shahid Afridi, who won the Multan one-dayer for the Pakistanis along with Kamran Hussain, the left-arm medium pacer, who made his debut in the third ODI.
The selectors have also added middle-order batsman Naumanullah and medium pacers Junaid Zia and Abdur Rauf. According to one selector, either Junaid or Rauf can also be considered for the playing line-up tomorrow.
Though Naumanullah has been added to the squad on the basis of the fact that he was the topscorer in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy with a tally of 949 at a healthy average of over 60, he is unlikely to get his chance in Sheikhupura.
In Sheikhupura, Khurram Manzoor is likely to open with Khalid Latif as the selectors are planning to rest newcomer Nasir Jamshed, who has opened in all the previous four games of the series. Experienced batsman Younis Khan will return to the line-up after getting a rest day in Faisalabad.
Pakistan squad: Shoaib Malik (captain), Nasir Jamshed, Khalid Latif, Khurram Manzoor, Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Naumanullah, Fawad Alam, Rizwan Ahmed, Sarfraz Ahmed (wk), Sohail Tanvir, Junaid Zia, Sohail Khan, Wahab Riaz, Abdur Rauf.
