Triple Centuries in Test Cricket
Mahela Jayawardene became the second Sri Lankan and the 19th player in Test history to score a triple century when he amassed 374 on the third day of the first Test against South Africa at Colombo. His mammoth innings was studded with 43 fours and a six. Jayawardene also became the second player to record a triple ton against South Africa after Chris Gayle’s masterful 317 at St. John’s Antigua last year.
England’s Andrew Sandham was the first man on the planet to reach 300-mark in Test annals. Australia’s Don Bradman and West Indian Brian Lara are the only two batsmen in Test cricket to score two triple centuries. Antigua Recreation Ground and Headingley, Leeds are the only two venues in the to have witness three individual triple century scores.
