Twenty20 World Cup : England vs South Africa Match Review
England always dream about winning the world cup title of their national game, but they always fall short. It’s not that they don’t try hard, they do strive their best to accomplish wonders, but its their bad luck that despite of including talent from foreign nations, they still don’t have that stingy firepower to combat monsters like South Africa.
In the 15th match of group E of Twenty20 world cup, Played at Newlands, Cape Town, South Africa clinched an easy win over not-so-convincing English outfit, which bowled considerable well, but batted with crippled hands. When South Africa started the match with their skipper Graeme Smith and his co-opener JP Duminy, crowd in the backdrop of blaring music and athletic dance, encountered first disappointment, when both of them got out early without scoring much. Young English lad Broad snatched their wickets in somewhat amazement reaction. AB de Villiers and Justin Kemp also took a start, but failed to capitalize.
Though, then the formidable Mark Boucher kept the score ticking, the electricity was missing from Protean batting. England made a decisive blunder, when Collingwood and Shah each left a top-edged pull to the other man and the lucky man from other side was Albie Morkel, then it was all Morket and his slaughter. He made 43 runs on 24 balls with the help of 4 lofty sixers and 3 breath-taking boundaries.
England was looking at the getable total of 154 with apprehension, but the crowd seemed in the awe of likes of Kevin Pietersen, Collingwood and Flintoff. But England knew the inside story. Crowd was in the awe of Kevin Pietersen, as he made some 454 runs in six ODIs last time he visited his homeland with his English team. The crowd abused him upon his entry, and he abused the crowd with his threatening batting, but this time, his innings was so English, devoid of any serious threat and hollow from inside, he cheaply got run out without asking any pointed questions.
It was evident that England lost whatever nerve they had, after the departure of Kevin. Dispirited English team afterwards played just for the formality and sharks of South Africa had a feast to enjoy. English pinch-hitters, who are still in their infancy and relented to the pin-point fielding and agile bowling of the opponents. If England wants to show any worthwhile performance in the Twenty20 format, especially in front of the likes of Aussies and Protean and Srilanka, they have to reshuffle their nature of the game.
