Pakistani team officials are hopeful that pacer Umar Gul will get fit in time to make the playing eleven for the second Test against India starting from November 30.

Team manager Talat Ali Malik told ‘The News’ here on Thursday that Gul’s back injury doesn’t seem to be of serious nature and the bowler should be back into training in the next couple of days.

“Umar consulted with a local specialist here and he says that the injury is not of any serious nature,” Talat, a former Test cricketer, said. “The specialist says that the player should be all right after a few days of rest,” he added.

Gul, was supposed to share the new ball with Shoaib Akhtar in the opening Test against India under progress here at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium. But he was sidelined because of a back sprain and Pakistan were forced to give a Test debut to rookie medium pacer Sohail Tanvir.

Talat said that the team management will wait for a verdict from the medical commission of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) before considering Gul for the second Test to be played in Kolkata. MRI reports of Gul’s injury have been sent to the PCB medical commission in Lahore and it is expected that it would send its opinion to the team management shortly.
