Vaughan set to miss first Test
Michael Vaughan will miss the first Test against the West Indies on Thursday, according to his Yorkshire team-mate, Deon Kruis, who said the England captain’s finger hasn’t healed in time.
“He has been in [the nets] over the last couple of days trying to test the finger,” Kruis told Sky Sports. “He’s had an x-ray and had some strapping on the finger but he won’t be ready for the first Test. But he feels pretty confident of being ready for the second Test match.
“I suppose he was looking at playing but he was still feeling some discomfort,” the pace bowler added.”
Vaughan broke his finger after facing Stuart Clark, the Australia fast bowler, in a Championship match against Hampshire last week. England are due to announce their squad for the first Test on Sunday, with Andrew Strauss - who today hit 120 for Middlesex - the favourite to replace Vaughan as captain.
Vaughan last played a Test 17 months ago in Pakistan.
