Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram on Saturday termed present national captain Inzamam-ul-Haq as a right person to lead the side in the next year’s World Cup in the West Indies.

Wasim, the legendary fast bowler while putting weight behind his former World Cup winning-teammate, said the veteran batsman would be the right choice for captaincy for the World Cup as the boys in the team respect him more.

Inzamam, the only survivor left from the 1992 World Cup winning squad, came under fire after Pakistan lost the Test series in England with many pundits suggesting that the burly batsman from Multan should give the leadership to his off spring Younis Khan for the next year’s World Cup.

“No doubt Younis will be an intelligent captain but my vote goes to Inzamam for the World Cup captaincy as he is the most experienced player in the side and players respect him most,” Wasim said in an interview.

However, Wasim suggested Inzamam to be more active on the field and to become a motivational force under tense situations like he was in the last tour of India in 2005. Commenting on Pakistan’s chances in the World Cup, Wasim said the team have a great chance to win the prestigious title as they have a balanced combination in both bowling and batting. “Except the opening pair matter, Pakistan are a balanced side which could win the next year’s World Cup,” Wasim noted.

Wasim, who finished with 414 Test and 502 One-day International (ODI) wickets, praised the upcoming pacer Mohammad Asif, saying by gaining more experience the lanky bowler could become one of the best in the world.
