We can create upsets, warns Utseya
Zimbabwe captain Prosper Utseya on Friday warned hosts Pakistan not to take his underrated team lightly in the upcoming one-day series saying that his players were capable of producing upsets.
Speaking at the trophy unveiling ceremony ahead of the five-match series that gets underway from January 21 (Monday) in Karachi, Utseya said that Zimbabwe have produced some stunning results in the recent past and can do that again in the series.
“We have beaten Australia and our guys are certainly capable of winning matches here,” said the young off-spinner. Zimbabwe defeated world champions Australia in a match of the inaugural World Twenty20 championship in South Africa and also won a One-day International against the West Indies in Harare last November.
Utseya said that the return of senior players including spinner Ray Price has boosted his team. “Pricey (Price) is a very good and experienced spinner and together we have formed a good spin partnership which should be useful for our team in these conditions.”
He said that Zimbabwe’s spin attack would be one of their main strengths in the series against Pakistan which is expected to be played on low and slow wickets in Karachi, Hyderabad, Multan, Faisalabad and Sheikhupura from Jan 21 to Feb 2. Utseya said that expectations were high back home as people expected his team to play good cricket in Pakistan.
