Two days after Supreme Court ruled Ten Sports as the sole broadcaster of the India-West Indies series, the BCCI wants the three parties — Nimbus, Ten Sports and DD — to work towards an “amicable solution” that will ensure cricket enthusiasts in the far reaches of the country don’t miss out on the Caribbean action.

Although the BCCI formally welcomed the apex courtÂ’s ruling, many in the Board donÂ’t want to see the remote villages miss out on the action with Doordarshan missing the cut for the long series.

Nimbus Communications is the production house that bagged the global media rights last February. It holds the broadcast right for IndiaÂ’s matches in India (which it can sell to any channel), while it can only package it to other TV channels for broadcasting in matches overseas. Ten Sports, on the other hand, hold the right to broadcast IndiaÂ’s matches that are played abroad.

The BCCI mandarins want Nimbus to play the role of a negotiator between Ten Sports and DD for the West Indies tour.

A source in the BCCI top brass told The Indian Express: “Since Nimbus got the TV rights last February, the BCCI has put the onus on them for decisions regarding telecasting India’s matches. The BCCI welcomes the court’s decision but wants fans in remote areas to get to watch the tour live. It’s up to Nimbus now to sit with the two parties — Ten Sports and DD — work out something.”
