Wicket of Lara was a trap, says Umar Gul
Pakistan’s promising fast bowler Umar Gul believes that the West Indies captain Brian Lara’s wicket came as a result of his team’s planning, prior to the third and final Test match being played here at the National Stadium.
“Of course we discussed the West Indies batsmen’s weaknesses before the (Karachi) match and Inzamam told me to bowl Lara within the stumps right from the beginning to trap him lbw or bowl him out and finally it worked,” Umar, who bowled out Lara on his very second ball, told a press conference here on Tuesday.
Umar, who took three vital wickets of Chris Gayle, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Lara, contradicted Ganga’s statement, saying the wicket is easy for batsmen and bowlers might receive an injury while bowling with pace at this type of wicket. “Even I, down the order made 26 runs on this wicket as it is a batsmen-friendly track and not easy for the bowlers especially pacers,” Umar said while
denying Ganga’s statement who described the pitch as not sporting.
However, the pacer agreed with Ganga, by saying that the wicket will be difficult in the following days.
“The pitch will become difficult in the following days and we hope to restrict the tourists to a low first innings total,” Umar stated.
