World Cup: Ireland vs Australia Match Review
I have never seen a bomb blast live, but I have little doubt that it wouldnt be much different from the explosion which Australia did in Barbados and blew Ireland in innumerable shreds. Australia romp the whole Irish batting just for 91 runs and then achieved the target in no time by losing just one wicket in just 13 overs.
Austalia carried on its winning streak by its 19th straight win in the world cups. In the regard of this record Austalia’s closed competitor is West Indies, which has managed to win 9 world cup matches in a row. From 23rd May, 1999 to this date, Australia is invinciable in the world cup.
Irish, after causing the whole Pakistani cricket edifice to collapse, collapsed himself agaisnt unbelieveable Aussie bowling. After winning the toss, Ricky captain, the master Aussie skipper invited Irish batsmen to listen the music played by the likes of Glenn McGrath and Shaun Tait.
From the very inception, it was all hue and cry from Irish side. Wickets were tumbling, catches were taken and the ropes of boundary just wistfully waited to kiss the white leather, their kisses were very few. The carnage began early on, and within a blink of eye, All the Irishmen were back in pavillion in 30 overs by scoring just 91 runs. Mony 23 runs, Johnston 17 runs and Brian 16 runs were the top scorers from the Irish side, rest of the batting was so pathetic that nobody was competent enough to reach the double figures. McGrath and Tait both took 3 wickets each.
Ponting, the shrewdest captain in the current cricket horizon provided a unique oppurtunity to his star batsman Hussey to get some of his form back. Hussy and Gilchrist started the blizzard and made 62 runs, Gilchrist lost his concentration and after personal 34 runs got out to Johnston.
Then came out Ponting’s boy Andrew Symonds, who in colloboration with Hussey got the target in 12.2 overs without causing trouble to any other of their batting buddies. The veteran old boy Glenn McGrath received the man of the match award.
