Young Skipper for a Young Team
Bangladesh following the suit of Pakistan has also appointed a fresh and young face to lead their national team, which is full of youth and promise. He has replaced Habibul Basher who resigned from the captaincy after an abusive defeat from India in a recent series. India out-classed Bangladesh virtually in every match.
Young Batsman Mohammad Ashraful will be the captain of Bangladesh for the one day internationals and test matches and Mushrafe Murtaza the fast bowler would act as his deputy.
Just 22 years of age, Mohammad Ashraful is the youngest skipper for Bangladesh and have got some real challenges in front of him. After the Kenyan captain Propsper Utseya, Mohammad Ashraful has become the youngest captain in the history of world cricket. Mohammad Ashraful has been appointed as captain up till after the 20-20 world cup in South Africa.
His first test would be against Srilanka. Bangladesh, at the end of this month, will play 3 tests and 3 ODIs against Srilanka. Bangladeshi cricket board has also shown their immense confidence in the new skipper Mohammad Ashraful and has called it a rational and dynamic change and have said that it was done for the long run planning to build up a world class team for the country.
Mohammad Ashraful has also shown his resolve and have pledged to reach to the mark. His has expressed his self-confidence by saying that his young age wouldn’t really hamper his leadership and according to him, he is ready to face the new challenge.
