Yuvraj Becomes a Celebrity
Yuvraj Singh is the current Indian celebrity. Right now he even surpasses Shahrukh Khan and Sachin Tendulkar in the fame race. Yuvraj Singh slammed six sixes off England paceman Stuart Broad at Kingsmead Stadium in Durban, and wrote a new history in the Twenty20 format of the game.
Former Indian players and Indian media paid tribute to middle order batsman Yuvraj Singh after he became the first man to hit six sixes in an over in Twenty20 cricket in a World Cup match against England. The 25-year old left-handed aggressor belted English main fast bowler Stuart Broad six in a row during the Super Eights clash in Durban on his way to scoring the fastest half-century in Twenty20 internationals, when he reached the mark off just 12 deliveries.
Crowd went mad, and in front of the dancing of Indian fans, the designated dancers in the ground looked static. Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gawasker were ecstatic, whereas Indian camp was rocking with enthusiasm. Yuvraj’s fireworks in the 19th over steered India, who amassed 218 for four, to an 18-run win to keep alive their chances of reaching the semi-final. It was really a tremendous performance by the mercurial Yuvraj.
It was superb, clean hitting all around the Durban, and it filled all sorts of color in the game. Yuvraj became the man of the match, and he became the fourth batsman to achieve the feat in elite cricket, barely weeks after he himself was hit for five sixes in an over by England’s Dimtri Mascarenhas in a one-dayer at the Oval, England.
South Africans were rocking too with the brilliant display of fine batting by Yuvraj, as they were remembering the time, when their own star Herschelle Gibbs hit Dutchman Daan van Bunge for six sixes in an over in a World Cup group match, in the last world cup in West Indies.
