Zaheer likely to remain manager for England tour

Former Test star Zaheer Abbas remains the leading candidate to land the prized job of Pakistan team manager for this summer’s tour of England, ‘The News’ has learnt through reliable sources.
Though the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials say they are keeping their options open, Zaheer is likely to retain his place in the team management for the important assignment.
Pakistan are expected to decide over their team manager for the England tour during a PCB Ad-hoc Committee meeting to be held in Lahore on June 5.
A PCB official told ‘The News’ that the appointment of the team’s manager would be on the agenda of the meeting in which the Ad-hoc Committee would discuss various issues with Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, coach Bob Woolmer and chief selector Wasim Bari.
Abbas Zaidi, PCB’s Director of Board Operations, said he expects the Ad-hoc Committee would finalise the name of national team’s manager in the meeting. He, however, refrained from divulging the list of candidates for the post.
Zaheer’s name, according to sources, is on the top of the list. He was manager of the Pakistan team on the tour of Sri Lanka — Pakistan’s last international assignment.
One of the legends of Pakistan cricket, Zaheer seems set to be a part of the team management for the lengthy tour of England where Pakistan are to play four Tests and five One-day Internationals.
