Zimbabwe World Cup Squad and Players to Watch
Politics and intrigue are the part of every cricket team, but unfortunately for Zimbabwe, this part has remained dominant over their game. Subdued and quashed by political and racial issues, Zimbabwe is trying hard to regain its balance and to appear as a serious contender in the world cricket.
After the exit of rebellion white players from the Zimbabwe outfit, the revival has introduced many new and promising faces. The off-spinner captain Prosper Utseya is leading the team from the front with the newly found fervour and exuberance. Though, still fledgling and prone to international pressure, he has got flair and spark to enable his team for world class fight in world cup 2007.
Even with the white colors in the team, Zimbabwe was alway underdogs due to their inconsistencies and soft approach towards game. Strangly enough, transformation of color hasn’t changed this trend. The new players like batsman Friday Kasteni, Stuart Matsikenyeri and Vusi Sibanda have their fair share of grand and disappointing failures. Everyone of these players have, at one time or another, have surprised the crowd with their brilliant stroke play, but their consistent failure and throwing away wickets have angered the Zimbabwean crowd to a huge extent.
Another still-being-expected-to-deliver player in Zimbabwe side is their wicket keeper Brendon Taylor. He has also got the talent to bat aggressively, but henceforth is unable to impress anyone with his batting or wicket keeping. Due to his experience, Zimbabwean selectors have sent him to world cup 2007. He is due to show his mettle out there.
Tawanda Mupariwa is the pacer for Zimbabwe along with Blessing Mahwire, but sadly enough for Zimbabwe Blessing Mahwire has been left out of team for world cup due to his acute illness.
Zimbabwe will be disparate enough to put up a decent fight in the mega event, at least against other underdogs like Scotland, Kenya, Bangladesh, Canada and Bermuda.
